I just posted a feedback bug report about MS Project drawing objects and found this post while researching it. I suspect it is the same class of bug. I have found the only workaround currently is to replace the drawing object with a less obtrusive drawing object. There may be a workaround in VBA but I haven't explored that avenue yet.

Edit: There is no workaround in VBA. MSP doesn't expose drawings in the object model in any meaningful sense, just some basic UI handles.
