Copy and paste to a PfW schedule...
- Nov 13, 2023
Hey James_Price ,
I don't see this issue. If the Name cell has the green outline so it just selected (no cursor flashing inside it for typing), copying and pasting multiple task names from multiple rows in Excel works fine. If I click in the Name cell to make it active to type with the cursor flashing, the values from multiple rows will just create 1 new task.

Hi James_Price ,
What copy and paste are you trying? It works for me when copying and pasting a row from within the grid view to new blank row in the grid. It also works for me when copying multiple rows from say an Excel sheet into the blank row on the grid - the tasks get created. You just need to ensure the data types from the Excel sheet are compatible with the columns you have in the view on the grid.

When I try to do this (copy and paste a few task names only) I get a pop-up stating: 'the paste operation is not supported'. Am I missing something?
Many thanks

Pardon me for bumping into this thread, but I have had some experience with copying and pasting data into a Project for the Web schedule. You should be able to successfully copy and paste multiple tasks from an Excel workbook. You can paste the Task Name, Duration, Start, and Finish columns successfully. However, BEWARE of copying and pasting Start and Finish dates, as Project for the Web will automatically add a Start No Earlier Than constraint to each of the tasks, which will probably interfere with the project schedule, and if so, will have to be removed ONE AT A TIME! ARRGGGHHH! I have discovered it is better to copy and paste only the Task Name and Duration data, and then link the tasks to let the software calculate the Start and Finish dates. Also, I was never able to import task dependency information from Excel. But if you figure out how to do that yourself, please share with us how to do it.
Hope this little bit extra helps. - Paul_MatherNov 06, 2023MVP
Hi James_Price ,
I don't see that message / issue. Where are you copying from? I'll try to repro if you can provide exact steps / details of the source data.

- James_PriceNov 13, 2023Copper ContributorHi Paul,
Sorry for the delay on this but I thought I'd replied last week... d'oh. So what I've been doing:
1. I copy a range from Excel (A1:A3 with values a, b and c).
2. In the Project Task tab, I select Grid and click on the 'Add new task'. This changes to a green outlined cell with 'Name' inside it.
3. When I paste, a black on white text pop up says 'The paste option is not supported'.
4. If I click again in the cell, I get the cursor key and this only pastes 'a b c' in the cell.
Hope this helps
Many thanks
