SharePoint site news notifications in Microsoft Teams channel

Dear Microsoft community,

we are desperately trying to solve the issue since Microsoft stopped supporting the SharePoint News connector.

We were trying to use the https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/office/sharepoint-news-connector-retirement-062bc8d1-b6f9-4716-a154-a6b9073d3461 that MS proposed but it's just not working.

Can someone help me to setup a workflow that is posting the recent news in our news channel so that colleagues can start conversations about it?

Thanks.

Best

Phil

    Hi Philipp,

You’re right — the native SharePoint connector for Teams notifications was retired, but you can still automate this using Power Automate.

Here’s how I’ve set it up:
    1. Create a new Flow in Power Automate.
    2. Choose SharePoint → When an item is created or modified.
    3. Select your SharePoint site and the “Site Pages” list (where news posts are created).
    4. Then, add a Microsoft Teams → Post a message in a chat or channel action.
    5. Configure it to send the page title, link, and author name to your chosen Teams channel.

This method works smoothly without needing any deprecated connectors. It’s also more flexible — you can customize your message layout, include thumbnails, or even add AI-based image enhancements before sending notifications.

    Hope this helps!

    Did this get resolved?

I'm testing a flow at the moment that posts an adaptive card in a nominated Teams channel based on the SharePoint news post's promoted state.  It includes the title of the post, three lines of text, and a SharePoint link; no image, though, as I haven't been able to work out how to pull this in (and I've tried the Banner Image dynamic content shown in the earlier example).

Hi. Nope we are doing it manual. It's ridiculous that they don't have a solution for that.

With Power Automate you could build a flow that saves an adaptive card to a Teams channel with a news item published on SharePoint. The screenshots below are almost 5 years old now and I haven't done this particular flow recently as I moved company and role. I'm aware that the Post an adaptive card... action has changed but if you would like me to prepare an updated version let me know here and I'll post it up asap.

This is the result in the Teams channel:
