Limited entries

Hi, I read somewhere that there are limitations to the number of cards you can have active / overall. I also heard this may change soon? Can you confirm what the limits are now (if any) and what they will change to and when?

thanks,
Tom.

I don't know the limits for that, but I do have a suggestion if you hit your head on the ceiling. Your completed tasks can be pulled out and recorded somewhere else (like a SharePoint list) using Microsoft Flow. The Planner connector within Flow doesn't allow you to query ALL of the fields (you can't grab things like labels or checklists), but the core fields are available. You can make a Flow that you run manually on-demand, you can schedule it at regular intervals.

Once you have the completed tasks copied out elsewhere, you can delete tasks in bulk from Planner. When you delete a bucket, it deletes all tasks that were within it.

An example of how you might use this -

A SCRUM team runs in 2-week sprints. They create a bucket for the new sprint, and put all tasks they choose for that sprint inside that bucket. Each task gets moved to the Completed status as it's finished. At the end of the sprint, any Unfinished tasks are moved to a new bucket for the next sprint. Then the Flow is run to archive out the Completed tasks for reporting later, and finally - the previous sprint bucket is deleted (and all the old tasks along with it).

  • Unless someone from the team confirms them, it's very difficult to help you here...Planner limits are not well documented for a reason I don't know
