How to export planner status reports in excel?
I have to share project status reports and would like if plan and task status reports can be generated in excel format.
An integration with excel online would be great.
Regards.
- Lord_RichardCopper ContributorIs there a process to get this into the roadmap? Paying another 20% monthly subscription for one addition is too expensive for a simple feature to export the notes/comments.

Haven't dug into it yet but there is now rich Power BI integration for reporting.
https://powerbi.team/powerbiforplanner/ - PBelleroseCopper ContributorI have been using planner for a while and after implementing Scaled Agile Framework in our company I discovered Azure Devops which has all of these features built-in.
It works on any platform (Planner does not like enterprise authentication) and could be simple as only using cards and a KANBAN up to full blown Stories, Features and Epics with intregrated teams.
I would never go back to Planner.
Honestly, I doubt Microsoft will ever implement the features requested here in Planner since they already have a product that does that.- Wendy GramerCopper Contributor
According to the Microsoft User Voice for Planner, they have started working on this feature. It doesn't show up in the Roadmap yet though.

Anyone else having major issues with the browser hanging after you select the Table to use for the export?
MS you've really let down this product without as basic a capability as export to CSV for over 2 years.
- S HonnihalCopper ContributorIs there a limitation on numbers tasks to be added in the planner? Currently I have about 400 tasks and planner struggles in opening, adding, editing tasks. The performance is very poor.

I just created a Flow that triggers when a Task is Closed. It sends the closed item to a SharePoint list. That seemed easier than setting up Excel and also easier to share. Also, Excel can be linked to a SharePoint list for reporting using Pivot Tables. The only bad thing is that you can't get much detail from the task from what I can see, at least from Planner in O365. The title and dates are the only useful information. I couldn't pull description, labels or assignee.

Yes, I would really like to see this option. It is vital to bring printouts to meetings and send reports to managers.

You can export Planner to Excel using Flow. In Flow, select Planner, then list tasks. Then "Apply to each" value, then Excel: insert row.

Rob,
Thanks for suggesting using Flow.
But Flow does not read Planner properties like Labels, AssignedTo, Tasklist and BucketId and PlanID are internal IDs that are useless if you don't know where to look for the actual names.
Again, thanks to Agile Product Development!

Hi Rob can you provide more detail of the actions or triggers used?

Thank you Rob, can you provide more details in the actions or triggers used in the steps of the Flow?

I'm a newbie to Flow so there might be a smarter trigger, but just to get an export to work, I started with schedule --> recurrence as a trigger. Then:
- Connector: Planner
- Action: List Tasks
- Then add a "New Step" --> "More" --> "Add an Apply to Each"
- Action: Choose Excel connector, with the action "Insert Row"
Configure Excel file as needed with columns for whatever dynamic data for each task on the plan. It would be nice to have more choices there, but there is enough there for a useful export for me.

I don't want (to purchase) an additional tool. Would be nice if this will be a feature in Planner from Microsoft.

Microsoft
When this comes out of beta, I'm hoping we'll start to see a lot more capability around Planner along with the ability for us to create our own things around it:
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/docs/api-reference/beta/resources/task
- SanthoshB1Bronze ContributorYou can try this outlook add-in which allows you to export / import tasks to planner using excel.

This add-in costs money. We're paying for an Office 365 subscription, there must be a way to print even just to PDF, the task lists we've created in planner.
- S HonnihalCopper ContributorSanthosh - Thanks for sharing the outlook add-in but it seems to have paid subscription.

This works well for exports, however, is there any way to get
a) the comments concatenated so that all the details comments are in a single line cell with separators like attachments tab
b) if in the data it detects the separator it displays or inserts a line break to display the segment on a new line in the same cell?

Thanks Deon Burgess, I am happy to hear this and it is possible to do as you have requested. I have DM you more details regarding this.
