Frustrations with the New Planner Update
I was looking forward to the new Planner update, but instead of improvements, I’m seeing several changes that have negatively impacted my team’s workflow. Here are the main issues:
- "Assigned to Me" View: Previously, this view acted as a personal Planner automatically grouped by buckets, which was really helpful. Now, it’s been replaced with a simple list view, and the "Schedule" view for personal tasks has also been removed.
- Copying Plans: In the previous version, we could copy a plan and retain all the tags we'd created. Now, when copying a plan, the tasks no longer retain these tags, and when attempting to reassign them, the tags aren’t available in the copied plan.
These changes have made it more challenging for us to manage tasks effectively. Is there any way to revert to the previous version of Planner or enable these features again?

This is great news that Copy Plan is fixed. Note though, I don't find it under the 3 dots anymore but in the plan name drop down menu. Everything else seems to be in order for my uses.

Will someone from Sander please respond and provide some guidance on where microsoft is headed with this?

Woot! Its fixed! This morning (Nov 25, 2024) I copied a plan and all my labels copied too. Sander, thanks for fixing. Next time, please fix BEFORE you release. We depend on you to get this stuff right.

Yes, it's fixed! I just copied a plan as well, and the tags were retained. However, I'm going to leave this discussion without a solution for now since the "Assigned to Me" view issue remains unresolved. We still don't have an answer to that part.
Thanks for letting us know about the update.

Losing the Copy Plan option has a huge impact on workload. Every new project started requires me to copy the plan over, but now I have to recreate it each time. Microsoft, updates should reduce workloads not increase them!

I have not come across this yet, but that is the way I create a new task which save time. I may have to rethink about using Planner if all these changes are affecting the way I use the software. Unfortunately Microsoft has always believe they know best how we should use their software. With this I'm in favor of transferring it to another application. Now I get to see how Export is going work??

I agree, the update has almost left planner not worth using. I used it to track items going through our engineering, now I can't even filter by title name. what a wasted update, completely useless. Unfortunately I have years of back data that is no longer searchable by title. This update is crap, bring back the old Planner so I have easy access to filtering!

I agree. My Team(s) regularly used the Bucket View across all plans so that checklist items were openly visible and more manageable. Since the latest update, we can only view this in List view which is a real disadvantage for our operations and items are seemingly being missed. Please can we ask that the Bucket View is returned?

Totally agree - The board used to be a great dashboard that I could monitor my tasks with. Now it's a pain to navigate and much harder to just see incoming requests.
Microsoft- this was just a change for the sake of change...please revert back!

I heartily agree with the OP. The lack of a Board view in My Tasks makes it pretty much useless for me. The mysterious truncations associated with copying and moving tasks are also big time-wasters. Trello behavior in this area is worth emulating.

Regarding copying a Plan, Yes. This is a problem. I just tested this, and clicked the "labels" checkbox, and copied the plan. The copied plan is missing the labels. This is a huge problem. I have each bucket set up with a label to help streamline the content of our Onboarding plan. This is a problem that needs fixed.
Also...please allow the ability to copy the attachments as well. This is also a necessity!

Hi, you can use third party apps to export and import tasks along with tags. This will help you to save lot of manul efforts in creating a new plan again.

I work in a very large, heavily managed enterprise environment and third party apps are very difficult (often impossible) to get. Users in contexts like mind need good basic functionality.

Hi, could you tell us which third party apps can do what you mention, please?

You saved the board view in the My Plans section thankfully but to lose that view in My Tasks is a set back the list view might be useful for some but many find the board view much more effective and efficient to use.
I find myself looking for another solution outside of the Microsoft architecture.

Looks like it's on the roadmap https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=467255

Thanks for the info and that link. I hope it will also help people keep an eye on potential trainwrecks in Office 365.
