Workaround: How to 'Delete A Category' in the People tab in New Outlook
Current State: You can create a category and assign it to a contact card. Prior to April 2026, you can not easily delete the actual Category, which removes it from the left navigation.

In New Outlook, there is no direct option to delete a category from the People tab. The workaround is to remove that category from all contacts where it is applied. Once no contact is using that category, it will automatically disappear from the list. This is currently the only practical method in the New Outlook interface.
With 200+ contacts, I would hardly call this method "practical".
