I strongly believe email security and accounts being hacked have nothing to do with the current MS move. The real problem is the huge amount of spam and phishing mails - let MS try to solve that to serve customers!
Stopping SMTP/POP and IMAP support is simply silly.
I am still on Windows Live Mail and although it has it quirks, I found it better, easier and faster with some great unique features than all other programs I have tried out. And of the many email accounts I used in the past, I never got hacked.
If we look at the mail programs that MS published over the years, it looks like "panic football" at best, inconsistent and confusing many customers - see the above reactions...
