'Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access'.
Hi all,
I created a supporting video about this topic, targeting non-tech-savvy users. In this video, I explained:
- What modern authentication is,
- What to expect, and
- Guide you to Microsoft’s resources
So that you can take action before September 16th.

- sashmazzAug 23, 2024Copper ContributorSo does simply adding my "hotmail" account to the Outlook app on my iPhone solve this issue? I was originally using it in Apple Mail on my iPhone. Is there any other action I need to take?

My apologies for the delay. The links below show users how to update the Outlook App on their mobile devices.

I had deleted the Apple Mail App altogether and simply added my email account to the Outlook App on my mobile device. Does that solve the issue or is there anything else I need to do? Do I need to download the "Authenticator" app as well?
Thanks for your help.

Thank you very much for your video.
So if I understanded correctly, MS are forcing users onto a subscription service to continue to use Outlook on desktop. Office/outlook365 and instead of using desktop based storage i.e. PST and OST file archives in favour of less secure cloud based storage. Thanks.

Qwell666 I am in the same boat as you. I use several POP3 accounts. They are for outlook.com email addresses. I have Outlook 2021. I would like to continue storing my email on my computer. I would appreciate instructions from MS on how to do this?
I chose POP3 accounts because I can have a single inbox (using the same PST file). If I can't continue using the same data file it is a huge step backwards.
I have scoured the internet looking for answers, but have failed. Could a MS rep please help ASAP?

For Desktop users, Outlook supports Modern Authentication in all current Microsoft 365 subscription SKUs and Outlook 2021 LTSC (any SKU with build 11601.10000 or higher).Modern Authentication is not supported if your Outlook is configured to connect to Outlook.com using POP/IMAP or SMTP.
Option 1: Get a new Outlook Email App
Option 2: Instead of using POP/IMAP and SMTP, create a new Outlook Desktop profile. Create an Outlook profile - Microsoft Support

Teresa_Cyrus Hello: Thank you for your comments. I'm hoping for some information. If I link my outlook.com email accounts in Outlook 2021 as "Outlook Exchange" I believe that creates a OST file (correct me if I'm wrong). I could then use the Exchange accounts to store the emails in the OST file on my PC while meeting the the modern authentication requirements. IS that correct?
