Thanks so much for the response, that is really helpful. I know this may be a really daft question but how do I work out what app/s I can use then to access my email account?
The article I linked to above list the apps that can be used. For first-party apps, Outlook is available on Windows and mobile, or via the browser. If you prefer a third-party app, use Thunderbird or Apple Mail, both support Modern authentication. There is no exhaustive list of third-party apps, as those are not supported by Microsoft.
can you please give me instructions how to set up my hotmail account on apple mail on my macbook air? Am i correct, if i do this, I do not need to set-up 2 factor authentication?
i was able to get my hotmail account changed to outlook on my iphone.

- Ok, many thanks for all of your help. I'll have a look and work it through. My work already use outlook so it might be easier to use a different app to open email rather than have to select each time. I really appreciate your time.
