The action cannot be completed - Selecting Addresses fro the GAL

We have Exchange 2016 at the back with Outlook 2016 as the desktop client. Whenever we try to select a large number of names from any address book it fails and we get the dialog box stating "The action cannot be completed". Can't work out what is causing this.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.
