Shared Outlook Folder without Exchange Server

I am a Office 365 home user and I want to share an Outlook folder with my spouse.  When I choose properties / permissions / add users it does not let me choose from my Contacts, only the Offline GAL, which is empty except for my own e-mail address.  Is it only possible to share Outlook folders in a corporate environment with an Exchange server?  Is it possible to copy my Contacts to the GAL in order for me to select my spouse to share this folder?  Is there another process?
