setting up gmail in classic outlook
- Mar 01, 2026
Make sure that IMAP is indeed enabled within Gmail settings. Classic Outlook supports OAuth, so it can add any Gmail account, even those protected with 2FA or passkeys. If you are using an Outlook version that does not support OAuth, you will have to configure an app password within your Google account instead and use it within Outlook. Both methods are detailed here:
To set up Gmail in Outlook Classic, first make sure IMAP is enabled in your Gmail account settings. After that, open Outlook, go to File → Add Account, and enter your Gmail address. Outlook will usually detect the settings automatically. If two-factor authentication is enabled on your Gmail account, you may need to generate an App Password from your Google account security settings and use it instead of your regular password. Using the correct IMAP and SMTP settings helps ensure that your Gmail emails sync properly with Outlook.
