For Desktop users, Outlook supports Modern Authentication in all current Microsoft 365 subscription SKUs and Outlook 2021 LTSC (any SKU with build 11601.10000 or higher).
Modern Authentication is not supported if your Outlook is configured to connect to Outlook.com using POP/IMAP or SMTP.
Option 1: Get a new Outlook Email App
Option 2: Instead of using POP/IMAP and SMTP, create a new Outlook Desktop profile. Create an Outlook profile - Microsoft Support
MMany thanks for the above. On my desktop I use Microsoft 365 subscription based. Outlook for desktop includes both Outlook.com accounts, using Exchange and Gmail accounts using SMTP. AFAIK they can not use Exchange.
Question: how am I supposed to proceed?
Allow me to ask one further question.
What am I supposed to do with the Outlook app on Android? Will that automatically be updated?
Thank you.

You can create a new profile since your desktop already has a Microsoft 365 subscription.
Instead of using POP/IMAP and SMTP settings, create a new Outlook Desktop profile and then add your Outlook.com account using automatic account configuration, which will add the account with Modern Authentication. To do this, please use the following guidance:-
Create a new Outlook Desktop profile. For more information, please go to Create an Outlook profile.
-
Add your Outlook.com account. For more information, please go to Add an email account to Outlook.

Teresa_Cyrus Thanks. Sorry, but I am not sure, will this address the matter of Gmail and SMTP in Microsoft 365?
