Rapid Access to New Item Alert Window

I might have found about the best solution that I can get. The first time for the day that the New Item Alert window gets displayed, I just move it to a location on my screen that is always visible, and leave it open. The rule will update that window automatically. The sound played by the rule alerts me, and I can rapidly switch to the window and open the new item. Short of having the rule open the item directly, I think that's the best that I can do.
