Outlook works for awhile then stops receiving new email.

Outlook will receive new email when I first turn on computer and Outlook program and will continue to upload messages until I leave it idle for awhile, then it stops receiving and sending new emails. At that point I have to reboot the program to get it working. It then works for awhile, before stopping again. I know there is a fix for this, but do not remember what it is.
