Outlook refused a valid email address
When I try to add a mailto:email address removed for privacy reasons address to my Classic Outlook account, Outlook refuses to recognise btopenworld.com as a good email domain. Everyone else does, why doesn't Microsoft? It is a synonym of btinternet.com, so what's going on?

Classic Outlook is failing during automatic discovery for the btopenworld.com address; that does not establish whether BT treats it as an alias of btinternet.com for mailbox setup. The provider, not Outlook, defines which address is accepted as the sign-in name and which incoming and outgoing servers serve it. In Outlook, choose File > Add Account, enter the full address, select Advanced options, enable manual setup, and choose IMAP. Enter the exact server names, ports, encryption methods, username, and authentication requirements supplied by BT, using the full mailbox address as the username unless BT specifies otherwise. Test the same credentials in BT webmail first. If BT says the alias cannot authenticate independently, add the mailbox with its primary btinternet.com identity and use the btopenworld.com address only as an alias where supported. Microsoft cannot confirm the alias relationship; BT must verify that account mapping.
