Outlook for Mac search not working in legacy version but does in the new version

I am working on two  MacBook Pro systems one with an i9 the other an m1. Both have the same o/s builds, both have the same hardware configs except previously noted. both have fully updated Office365 subscription (same user owns both systems). Checked all the settings to verify that search wasn't being blocked by the o/s. Now here is the rub the i9 will search in both legacy and new Outlook modes the m1 will only search in new Outlook mode but not in legacy. The user uses the column feature available on legacy mode but that's not available in new mode (doesn't care for the new mode look and feel). At this time rebuilding the Outlook profile is not a option as there are multiple work email addresses from 2 companies plus the personal ones (he doesn't have the passwords to 5 out of 7 addresses) so this would be a last resort scenario.
