Outlook for mac no longer respects reading pane choice
I normally view my emails on Outlook for Mac with the Reading Pane set to "right". Got an update of Outlook this morning and now Outlook changes the Reading Pane setting back to "Bottom" whenever I quit and restart Outlook.
I am on Version 16.102.2 (25102623)
Please advise how I can get Reading Pane setting back to a default of "Right".
Many thanks.
I have been facing the same issue, but you can try downgrading to solve the issue.
(Version 16.102.1 (25101829))
The old version can be downloaded from the website below.

Mine updated to 16.103 (25110922) yesterday [still using Legacy] and although the reading pane glitch is fixed (I want none, and it says none every launch) it seems that I can no longer apply a Category to new emails -- the list of choices is not available. Previous emails still have categories, and some new emails get categories applied due to the contact's category or a rule I've got. But -- no list of choices! Anyone else?

Hi Everyone,
I find a solution:
Open Outlook application and set your Reading Pane to Right.
Quit Outlook
Open Mail application once (to force upgrade)
Quit Mail
Open Outlook again

msft support just told me via chat that it has it listed now as a bug to be fixed but needs to gather more documentation. i have to fill out some incident report. very microsoft ... we have to jump thru hoops to document what everyone knows before msft will fix what it broke. i have spent hours on this already in chat with msft and with other users. i am out of bandwidth to spend any more time. i'll fill out the incident report tonite and then wait a week or a month or a year for msft to fix it. same as it ever was ...which is why i abandoned msft for apple 16 years ago. thanks for your comment Ben. appreciate all you do.

The same issue surfaced yesterday as well. Using 16.104. We have to manually set the view pane to right every time the program opens - no fixes.
The search box for emails and the toggle for legacy / new outlook also disappeared from the blue ribbon in the top right corner. Searching for emails is impossible now.

Many thanks. That has done the trick (for now). Had to completely delete 16.102.1 before installing this version - otherwise for some strange reason it was remaining as 16.102.2.
Will avoid updates to Outlook for a little while and see if they sort the issue out.
