Outlook - cannot add Google G Suite account - javascript disabled?
I did the Registry fix mentioned several times in this post, but every time I started Outlook the OUTLOOK.EXE value changed back to 10001.
After many hours of frustration I stumbled on this page which gave me a clue what was needed:
https://help.politemail.com/help/to-use-politemail-you-must-restart-outlook
Basically you have to change the permissions for the OUTLOOK.EXE value so Outlook can no longer change it back to 10001.
So the full instructions for the Registry fix are:
1. Close Outlook.
2. Click the Windows icon, type regedit and press the Enter key. This should run Registry Editor.
3. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
4. Right-click OUTLOOK.EXE > Modify....
5. Set Base to Decimal and change Value data to 11001 (or if that doesn't work, try 11000). Click OK.
6. Ensure OUTLOOK.EXE is highlighted, then go to Edit > Permissions....
7. Click Advanced > Disable inheritance.
8. A Block Inheritance window will appear. Click Convert inherited permissions into explicit permission on this object.
9. Click OK to return to the first permissions window.
10. Select your current (i.e. logged in) user account in the list at the top.
11. Switch off Full Control, but leave Read switched on.
12. Click OK.
Now when you try adding the Gmail or Google Workspace account in Outlook, after entering the email address you should be asked to re-enter the password instead of being told your browser is insecure, then you can allow Outlook to access your Gmail account.
If needed, you can undo the permissions change by doing steps 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7, then clicking Advanced > Enable inheritance.
Hopefully this helps a few people.
EDIT: Bear in mind that you can only add one Gmail or Google Workspace account to an Outlook profile. To add further accounts you have to set up additional separate Outlook profiles. If you try to add a second account to a profile, you'll get the message about your browser not being secure all over again.
EDIT 2: If the value 11001 doesn't work, try 11000.
