As of June 2024 Microsoft has a roadmap claim that states "In the new Outlook for Windows, users can now open attachments of all types in their respective desktop app by double clicking them." with rollout "starting August 2024". It doesn't explain how this will work or be configured, or if it will only work on Windows 11 vs. 10.

I have switched back to Classic Outlook as there are other things that don't work with the New Outlook. At least I'm not finding how to merge PST files in the New Outlook.
