New OUtlook Slow Sync gmail
Hi Phil, New Outlook set up with Gmail addresses have proven to some issues. When I help clients set up Gmail in New Outlook, I have them keep it open for some time before they engage in actively using it. For some reason, the Gmail accounts need time to complete full setup and show all the emails. As New Outlook doesn't hold any local email, it needs longer time to connect and be functional.
Question for you: When you use New Outlook, do you open and close it often? If yes, then try leaving it open for a day or so see if you have better results.
If you find this still not functioning, try removing the account and adding back in fresh. Let sit for awhile, be sure all the email and folders show up, then try sending and receiving. If you still have issues, check your VPN, Firewall and Antivirus. Those have shown me to be a root cause of some email problems lately.
Let me know of your results please, Lisa

Thanks Lisa
First, some extra info. I keep relatively few mails in the various boxes- I don't think size of files/folders can be an issue.
I usually open New Outlook at the start of the day and leave it open till late night. However I don't spend my life sitting at my PC so the machine goes to sleep several (perhaps 4 to 10) times through the day. I don't use a VPN so that should not be an issue. Antivirus is Avast. I will try sidelining Avast for a short period to see if that changes things- the problem in diagnosing is that the delays I complain of some times show up; other times not.
Yes, cancelling the account and re- coupling does set things right but I can't spend my life doing that just to check if there is an inbound e- mail jammed somewhere.
I will try to see if Avast is the issue. However by the time I have sidelined it the transmission/reception may have taken place anyway. The big frustration is the variability of the issue.
Funny, but everything works for my gmail account on my phone and tablet. I just wish new outlook had not been forced on us.
Phil

Hello Lisa
Further information and a couple of questions.
Opening and closing New Outlook does not produce any update to the folders. Switching folders and switching between existing accounts also does not force an update. As already notified the folders including "In", "Sent" and "Trash" boxes have quite small contents- perhaps 30 messages each and only two or three of them with pictures or attached files. A continual issue is when logging in to a secure site which sends an authorisation code by e- mail. The code may appear within a minute, or sometimes after 10 minutes or more, then becoming useless (timed out) because it is stuck at gmail and has not been picked up by New Outlook.
I don't need fancy facilities of posh user interfaces- just the ability to send and receive messages. That I do not have in spite of the might of Microsoft.
It would seem to me to be that the underlying issue should be diagnosable swiftly by Microsoft. Given that communications from the affected PC to the web are fine it should be trivial to devise a patch which triggers file updates when the app is opened; when a folder is opened and when "Send" is initiated.
I will press on trying to further isolate the issue (antivirus off etc) but the nature of the problem means you frequently don't know when your "In" box has been cut off.
Am I alone in experiencing this problem with New Outlook?
Does the same issue affect Outlook?
Is Msoft investigating?
When is an update/patch expected?

HI Lisa
Further information. I have removed my account then reentered it. Temporarily disabling the only virus blocker, Avast, did not help. There is a message I can see right now in my Gmail Inbox and 20 minutes later New Outlook has not picked it up. A little earlier today, even though Avast was on, a message came in and was picked up within a minute. It's so variable.
Any other thoughts please. Or am I going to have to get a new email client?
Phil
