New outlook - when marking one message in a thread read, entire thread is marked read

Hi all

Using the new outlook experience via the app. Have noticed since the last update that when you mark a single message in a thread as read, the entire thread gets marked read. Have tested in the app version and in the outlook for web version. Anyone have any ideas.....this is a big deal for me as I manage my workload by unread emails.
