New Authentication for email from September 2024
I have received an email from Microsoft headed " Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024 to maintain email access." I have an outlook account, and use a hotmail email address. ...
I use smtp-mail.outlook.com to send auto mails from some devices like RAID controller or Printers, and since 2020-09-16 it doesn't work anymore. Are all these devices abandoned by Microsoft ? That's brutal.
- Exactly. There are plenty of devices out there that send notifications using SMTP email. These devices cannot be updated to use a modern authentication method. However, I'm not aware that any of these device receive or need to "read" SMTP email. Will these device be allowed to use SMTP, presumably with an app password, to send notification emails?
- no, App Password is still Basic Auth and thus is abandoned.
Your only solution as far as I know is to use your Internet Provider SMTP instead - I have the same issue as mg Reolink camera app can now no longer send SMTP emails notifying me of camera activities. This is a nightmare. Is there going to be a way forward?
