navigation bar moved to left
Dears,
The navigation bar has been moved to the left. How can I change it back to be on the bottom?
- Vik99977Brass Contributor
Hi everyone,
I found the answer to this unwanted change (in the future it will be forced to have it on the left ...). I've already posted it on the MS forum but I will post it also here what to do:
Guys, this feature drove me also crazy but I did what u/AKSNC30 wrote BUT I had NOT the possibility to unclick the "Coming Soon" feature in the normal or safe Outlook.
What I did:
1) Closed MS Outlook
2) run with WIN+R (Windows button + R) and typed outlook.exe /safe (there must be a space between "exe" and "/safe"
( 3) if there is no feature for "Coming soon" - just close safe Outlook)
4) closed the "Safe Outlook"
5) reopened normal Outlook
and all was again in place (nav bar under e-mail folders). So I don't really know but Microsoft is doing some stuff without even the possibility to revert it back ... and we pay for this ...
The link to my comment is here on page 10 (Vik99977)
Cheers,
Vik

Mine has moved too 😞
Microsoft please don't force change on us, I am so used to the way things were.

This worked great, thank you. I'm also on the same page with many others...leave the navigation bar with the ability to place where desired. When splitting screens horizontally it provides more area to view email.

This one can fix this issue by regedit. it's perfect forme.
- twolocsBrass ContributorExcellent, thank you, worked like a charm. I hope it sticks! If MS feels they have to move this Navigation Bar to make it look more like the Office 365 web app, then we should at least have the option to move it back to the bottom.

I have found the solution and have just tried it and it actually works
Microsoft has implemented another change which allows you to move back the Navigation Bar to the bottom.
You can access this toggle by clicking on the Options link in the More Apps flyout or via;
- File-> Options-> Advanced-> disable: Show Apps in Outlook
Then restart Outlook and it should be back to normal.
Reinstate the Navigation Bar at the bottom by disabling the “Show Apps in Outlook” option.Be aware that this also removes the ability to get the full Microsoft To Do app experience within Outlook. Just in case you were enjoying that.
- Warren472Copper Contributor
Office_Whiz Thank goodness for that! That sidebar has been really annoying me. I wish Microsoft wouldn't simply dump these unwanted changes on us without any means of putting things back how we like them.
- StoredotEXECopper Contributor
Warren472IMO, this change is unwanted but probably makes it easier for many people to see the bar. Removing the To Do experience to roll back this view seems foolish. Why do that? If I worked at MS I would spend my time doing something useful (to me anyway).
- Get to work putting borders around explorer again. White windows on white screens with no borders was someones oversight and it's annoying as hell.
- Dump the unskipable first run in Edge that sets a bunch of settings like unwanted content, background images and shopping settings that I have to immediately turn back off. Or, make the first run actually useful so I could set/disable these settings during first run.
- Top putting unskipable tool tips in all of O365. Who are these for? They're only an annoyance.

Office_Whiz Great catch! Just implemented this and it works perfectly. Thanks for helping the rest of us!

Makensanph0211 THANK YOU! You made my day! I hate when they force changes on us and it is not obvious on how to "fix" it.

Hi MBZ1_ and others,
There are two ways to fix this, you can find these below:
- Open Outlook
- Press on the 'Apps'-icon and select 'Options':
- The 'Outlook options' pop-up shows up, remove the checkmark at 'Show Apps in Outlook':
- Restart Outlook and you're done
or
- Open Outlook and press on the 'File'-tab
- Go to 'Options'
- Press on the 'Advanced'-tab
- Remove the checkmark at 'Show Apps in Outlook':
- Restart Outlook and you're done
Good luck and don't forget to hit solved 😊:hundred_points:

tolgac Coming soon option is not there so how do you get it back cant move navigation bar to the bottom
- If Coming soon button is gone, "soon" has arrived and you won't be able to turn it off. You can see if you have either of the following keys and change the value to false, but it is just a short term solution.
>>
If the version is newer and coming soon not available, check these registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentConfigs\ExternalFeatureOverrides\outlook
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs\Overrides
If you have a value for Microsoft.Office.Outlook.Hub.HubBar, change it from True to False. (This is a temp fix - when it is no longer experimental, this key will be removed.)

Follow these steps:
1. File -> Options -> Advanced
2. Uncheck "Show Apps in Outlook"
3. Restart Outlook
The original/old navigation bar returns.
Best,

- MarkBEKOCopper ContributorThanks so much for this. It worked for me.
- Paul__OCopper ContributorYes. we know. That has been posted a dozen times or more. The issue is they're taking away that option.

Solved!
The registry editor does resolve this issue.
For those who do not know how to do this, here are the steps:- Step one: It is very important that a registry backup be made and only desired changes be made to the registry.
- If you are unsure how to do a backup, search online how to do this (I use Google).
- Step two: close Outlook:
- Note: Ensure all important emails/drafts are saved before closing Outlook.
- Hold the "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" keys and select "Task Manager". Then, in the pop-up box select Microsoft Outlook and click on "End Task".
- Step three: in your Windows Operating System (OS) taskbar search box type "Registry Editor".
- Step four: Click on the Registry Editor (App) icon to open.
- Step five: in the left column of the Registry Editor window, you should see a folder hierarchy. You will need to click through the folders to find the correct one (which will open on the right). Follow this folder path:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > 16.0 > Common > ExperimentEcs > Overrides
- How to navigate through folders: Each ">" symbol above represents a transition into a sub-folder. Each sub-folder can be navigated to by double-clicking the folder icon or single-clicking the ">" expand icon.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > 16.0 > Common > ExperimentEcs > Overrides
- Step six: When you have navigated to the "Overrides" folder, look in the right-hand column to determine whether there is a key called: "Microsoft.Office.Outlook.Hub.HubBar".
- If yes: then right click on the key, select "Modify...", In the "Value Data:" field, replace whatever is there with the single word "false" (do not include quotes).
- Note: You may want to remember the exact value that was there in case you ever want to revert this.
- If no: If the "Microsoft.Office.Outlook.Hub.HubBar" key does not exist in this folder, you can easily create it by right-clicking on an empty space in the right-hand column, hovering over "New > " in the pop-up selector, and clicking on "String Value". Then, simply type or copy and paste: "Microsoft.Office.Outlook.Hub.HubBar" into the key naming box (without quotes).
- To save your new key: click any blank area in the right side of the Registry Editor and outside the key naming box.
- After you have created the new key, right click on the key and select "Modify...". In the "Value Data:" field, replace whatever is there with the single word "false" (do not include quotes).
- If yes: then right click on the key, select "Modify...", In the "Value Data:" field, replace whatever is there with the single word "false" (do not include quotes).
- Step seven: close the Registry Editor application by clicking the "X" in the top-right corner.
- Step eight: This is the fun part! Restart Outlook with no pesky left-sidebar navigation pane!!!
- Step nine: share this solution with someone who needs help! 🙂
NOTE: Do be cautious making any edits to your registry! Errors can make your computer need to be reset, cause data loss or become unusable!!!

You, my new friend this morning, are a GENIUS !! This pesky toolbar showed up this morning and I had nothing better to do with my time but to find a way to remove it. 30 minutes of trying other peoples hacks got me nowhere. However, your thorough and exacting instructions worked flawlessly. It amazes me the things that we can find solutions for on the web. Even something as simple, but irritating, as this small issue. Job well done !! Thank you. jergrafs

Thanks ButchyBoy,
I struggled with this for a long time and was really frustrated.
I was pretty hesitant to mess with my registry. But, after doing this myself and having it work and knowing there weren't any clear and specific explanations online, I wanted to help save someone else the headache. I am glad that it helped. Though I admit, I only provided the instructions the solution came from others. I just broke it into simple steps. 🙂
- BochulainCVCopper ContributorI just went through this procedure on a client's computer and for some reason didn't have the same result literally everyone else seems to have had. I've checked and triple checked the Registry location, as well as the key and its value. Tried a reboot, no luck. I'm sure you've relayed it correctly, so I'm just worried that Microsoft got wind of this fix and disabled it. Anyone else run into this, or have any other ideas?
- jergrafsCopper ContributorBochulainCV
Others have mentioned that possibly based on individual user settings/setup, there is a different registry folder to put the key. You could try removing it from the original folder that I indicated and instead put the key here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > 16.0 > Common > ExperimentConfigs > ExternalFeatureOverrides > outlook
Let us know if this works for you. Thanks!
