Microsoft 365 Unable to create new email

I absolutely KNEW it was going to happen, I just figured it would take longer than a week.

I switched from Office 2019 to Microsoft 365 on a family plan about a week ago.

It worked fine.  Outlook worked fine.

It worked fine yesterday, and last night, and sat there overnight and it was fine when I went to bed.

This MORNING - press the "New Email" button and it sits with an hourglass for a couple seconds then stops.  NO NEW EMAIL.

Yes, everything is there.  I can see the Inbox and the Out box and all the other boxes.  I can look at things in them.

I can FORWARD email.

I can RECEIVE email.

I can REPLY to email.

BUT I can't create a new email.

YES, I rebooted.  Multiple times.  AND COLD booted multiple times.

And I finally went over to the control panel and did a full repair, which apparently involved it totally re-downloading and installing Microsoft 365.

And REBOOTED again.

And I STILL cannot create an email.

And YES, I went out and looked for "Microsoft 365 unable to create email" and found dozens of things that sent me to Microsoft.  Where there were no useful answers that I could find.

This HAS TO BE SOMETHING STUPID I'm DOING or NOT doing, but I have NO idea what...

At the moment, I'm dead in the water and having to send email from a gmail account.

HOW do I fix this?  OTHER than to reinstall Office 2019...

It's MUCH more interesting and stupider than that.....................
Up until THIS MORNING, when I press the "New Email" button, I get a new email in the Outlook pane with the list of other emails - the normal email in the bottom of the normal Outlook Window...

THIS MORNING, instead of opening the new email in there, it created a SEPARATE DOCUMENT and stuffed it in the far corner of the second monitor.... BEHIND all the OTHER stuff on that monitor that are THERE because they're things I don't need all the time and rarely look at...

So, TO ME, there WAS no NEW EMAIL... I spent 2 hours, reboots, clobbered the whole MS365 installation, and THEN realized there WAS a document being created - I could SEE it with the Outlook icon on the taskbar, BUT NOWHERE ELSE.

NOW I just need to figure out HOW to get Outlook to go BACK to putting the NEW Email in the normal Outlook pane like it's done for the last umpteen years - until this morning........

Update:  OK, I have NO IDEA how to get this email back into the normal Outlook pane with my folders on the left and the emails in lines on the right at the top, and the big empty space on the bottom right where the new email I was creating USED to show up...  I knew how to do it int Outlook 2019, but I have no idea how in Microsoft 365.  I'll keep fumbling around, but...

Um, folks, I can find a FIVE PAGE topic from last May filled with furious people screaming about their new emails opening directly as pop out windows, but NO solution... Can somebody please tell me how to get the New Emails back in the Outlook pane instead having them be pop out documents?
