manually configure SMTP in New Outlook?
Hi, I have several email accounts, and for some of them, the SMTP configuration that is auto-populated by Outlook is incorrect. The result is that I can read mail from the working IMAP connection, but I cannot send mail. I get "SmtpSubmissionPermanent5XXException: Smtp submission failed. Server 'smtp.mailchannels.net' Port '465'" - this is because mailchannels.net is used by Dreamhost, but custom domain email has to go through dreamhost's network first. It's not intended for users to connect directly to the mailchannels.net, rather that's where the dreamhost SMTP servers route their mail. It seems that Outlook is looking at DNS/mx entries to auto-configure SMTP, so it's finding mailchannels in the Dreamhost DNS. Since I can't manually configure SMTP in New Outlook, it makes every dreamhost email account effectively read-only since I cannot send. Will we be able to manually configure SMTP soon? Have I missed a memo? 🙂 Thanks!
