I need to return to my classic Outlook. I need to turn off new toggle. I can't. Help
Hi NebilSedki,
To switch back to the classic view in Outlook, follow these steps:
- Open Outlook.
- Navigate to the Outlook menu.
- Uncheck the option for the New Outlook.
- Click the Revert button.
- Allow the application to revert to the Outlook Classic view.
Toggling out of the new Outlook for Windows preview - Microsoft Support
If you don't see a toggle in the new Outlook for Windows, troubleshoot with these steps:
- Launch classic Outlook for Windows from the Windows Start Menu, not the new Outlook (identified by the "New" tag).
- Open the Registry Editor by typing "Registry Editor" in the Start Menu search and selecting the app.
- Go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences.
- Find and double-click on "UseNewOutlook" at the bottom of the list.
- Set the Value Data field to 0.
- Attempt to launch classic Outlook for Windows from the Windows Start Menu.
Switch from 'new' Outlook (2023) to 'classic' outlook - Microsoft Community
Ensure you choose the app icon without the "New" tag.

Unfortunately its not as simple as that. It will not allow the classic version to re-instal. I have tried to reach out to MS support but no joy yet. Some may like the new version but to me all the functionality I needed was in classic and some of this is either not or under new icons/drop downs. Going to try to re-instal O365

Hello richardvm I've had a similar problem (if you see my thread from earlier), I won't bore you with it again...
However, I found something that worked for me... !
Search in start menu for your old Mail app. The old envelope icon and app should come up! I saved to my taskbar and opened from there (had to try a couple of times as screen flashed to try and throw up the Office outlook loading screen and stopped), but the third time I tried, it worked!
All because I read something on here that stated the old e-mail 'app' was just called mail and calendar - and not outlook 😄
Really hope this helps you too!

When I turn off the New Outlook button, it prompts a Feedback, I skip it and then Outlook just shuts down itself and nothing happens. When I re-open it, it still opens as a New one. Vicious cycle ...

LeonPavesic what if "UseNewOutlook" isn't in the list?
- dave33stevensJul 20, 2024Copper ContributorBest response hands down. Thank you!

That's very comprehensive: I tried it, now what do I do if "UseNewOutlook" doesn't appear in the list?

theschoolmaster Add it as a DWORD value then set it to 0

LeonPavesic that worked like a dream! Only thing I would change is to change the registry setting while exited from Outlook.
BTW, this new Outlook - what use is it? The visual interface is so much less usable and so much more restrictive. I don't get it.

I hated Classic Outlook before there was another option. I switch on the first available opportunity and haven't looked back.
It's cleaner, easier to use, and much more organized.
I also like the customization aspect, though that's more cosmetic than functionality related. There nothing I could do in Classic Outlook that I cannot do in New Outlook.
I never lost my toggle switch and I only use it when I am troubleshooting with one of our employees at work since I work at the Help Desk.
There's no comparison for me. I get into Classic Outlook now and I'm even more confused by it than ever. It was always buggy.

So, you said "There nothing I could do in Classic Outlook that I cannot do in New Outlook."... Alright.
You have a professional or work account? (I'm refering to accounts ending in i.e. Contoso.com, @yourdomain.com ). In New Outlook (since first version and still in May 2025) you can't add your OWN NAME to you SMTP account. Yes, you can't add your OWN NAME. So, when you send a mail, the recipient receives you message like this: From sender@c.... (instead of John Doe <sender@...>
Outlook Classic supports that, and New Outlook is not supporting this, so be prepared, because your professional mails will look as you forgot to add your OWN NAME. And Microsoft, as always, are not planning to fix that.
- fedup125Dec 26, 2023Copper ContributorIf none of the above methods work, you can uninstall the new Outlook app from your system settings and reinstall the classic Outlook from http://www.office.com this doesn't work either.
- Sue_M87May 17, 2024Copper ContributorI tried everything and this actually worked and was easy. The other methods didn't work, likely because the new Outlook was installed on my new laptop (not an upgrade or change from original Outlook). Thanks fedup125! I really was "fed up" myself, gave the new Outlook 6 months, and it's positively stupid.
- fedup125Dec 26, 2023Copper ContributorAt last I have found the install page for office365, reinstalling it has fixed my email problem.

I think I lost files when Oulook went to the new format. I need to know how to get the inbox subfolders restored. I just want my files back and understand how to save them and be able to retrieve them. I had no idea this would happen. I wish I had known beforehand.
