Hotmail hacked!
Hi everyone,
My friends email was hacked yesterday and when he tried to log in Outlook responded credentials don't look right and wanted to send a code to his mobile.
After putting in last 4 digits of his mobile he never received any code. He tried to recover email by completing form asking for details like name, date of birth, email addresses of contacts he recently sent to and the subject message of those emails but was rejected.
Does anyone have any tips or advice on how he can recover his email or any contact number he can call? He lives in Australia.
Thanks for any advice!

I am sorry to hear about the email hacking issue. Recovering a hacked Hotmail (Outlook) account can be a challenging process, but there are steps you can take to try to regain access. Here is what your friend can do:
- Change Password: If your friend still has access to the recovery email or mobile number associated with the account, try changing the password. Go to the Microsoft account recovery page (account.live.com) and follow the prompts to reset the password.
- Account Recovery Form: If changing the password did not work, your friend can fill out the account recovery form on the Microsoft account recovery page. Make sure to provide as much accurate information as possible, including recent contacts, email subjects, and any other details that can help verify account ownership. This process may take some time, and Microsoft will review the information provided.
- Contact Microsoft Support: Your friend can try to contact Microsoft Support for assistance. Since your friend is in Australia, they can visit the Microsoft Australia support website (https://support.microsoft.com/en-au) to find contact information and get in touch with Microsoft's customer support team. They may be able to provide further guidance on recovering the account.
- Check Account Activity: Once your friend regains access to the account, it is important to review recent account activity to check for any unauthorized changes or actions. Change the password again to a strong and unique one to secure the account.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): After recovering the account, enable two-factor authentication for added security. This will help prevent unauthorized access in the future.
- Scan for Malware: Run a thorough scan of your friend's computer and mobile devices for malware or viruses. Sometimes, hackers gain access to accounts through compromised devices.
- Review Security Settings: Ensure that the account recovery information, security questions, and alternate contact methods are up to date and accurate.
- Beware of Phishing: Advise your friend to be cautious of phishing attempts and to never click on suspicious links or provide personal information to unknown sources.
- Educate on Account Security: Teach your friend about the importance of strong, unique passwords and good online security practices to prevent future hacking incidents.
Recovering a hacked email account can be a time-consuming process, but with the right steps and patience, it is possible to regain access and secure the account. Encourage your friend to take action as soon as possible to minimize any potential damage or unauthorized access to their account.
