GMAIL no longer accepts standard POP connections as of April 2025
Hi:
I have had multiple domains and email addresses feeding into Gmail for about 20 years. And all that time I have used Outlook desktop (current version is 2021) as my email client with a POP connection. As of 4/20/2025 that connection quit working due to POP login/password being a "less secure sign in technology". It looks like I can configure two factor authentication, which would be OK for Outlook, but a royal pain when viewing mail via my iPhone all day long. If there is another option, I would like to avoid that.
Searching for options, I see that I can use IMAP, but I may or may not need OAUTH2. Searching more I see posts that say that OAUTH2/POP can be configured but other versions that says it will not work in Outlook 2021. That's the problem with the internet. So many statements are both true and false at the same time.
I see that a lot of other people are now having problems with Outlook connecting to Gmail. I can't find a concrete solution anywhere. Ideally, I would like to retain the POP3 connection and data (about 50K emails moved all over by many Outlook rules I would like to retain). So, is there a good solution? What would be the steps?
Thanks in advance,
Terry

I have the same problem. I reinstalled my email accounts and they automatically installed as IMAP which i dont want because I want all emails to be stored on my desktop. I have since tried all sorts of changes after reading the many conflicting posts/discussions and am now at a loss on how to fix my situation.
I now think that I need a Outlook 365 expert who can come online and fix my situation?

I believe POP still works, but I'm not sure if I have configured one since the 20th. I do know that any Gmail account setup for POP requires an app password. Be sure 2-step is turned on, then you can get an app password. IMAP would run through the connector for Microsoft apps.
