email keeps going to deleted

I have a problem with my new emails via my Mail app on the laptop (even though they're in my contacts list) going into either my Deleted folder and/or my Junk folder instead of my Inbox.

I'm constantly checking both and selecting the "Stop Ignoring" on each one in order for them to go back to the Inbox, but as soon as I either answer the mail or click on the next one, the original just goes back to my Deleted folder.

How can I prevent this from happening in the first place?  This just started happening about a month or two ago - before that, everything worked fine.
