Combination of Gmail and non Gmail Email in Desktop Classic Outlook - effect on SENT mails
I use a combination of Gmail and non Gmail (IMAP IONOS) email addresses in Classic Outlook on my laptop. I have to turn off the option to save sent emails in a SENT folder so as not to get duplicates of all the Gmail emails and have set up Rules for each of the non Gmail email addresses to save sent emails in a SENT folder. This works fine on the laptop.
But I also have all my email accounts set up in an Outlook app on my android mobile phone. (The same occurs if I use the Gmail app on the phone). I can see the outgoing emails that I send with the non Gmail accounts from my laptop on my android, but not the sent emails.
I spent several hours "talking to" an AI yesterday trying to solve this, to no avail and I am hoping that a real live person is more succesful! All help gratefully received. Thank you.
THANK YOU! It just shows that following previous advice on one of these fora is not always the best way. I can go on holiday with just my mobile phone now. you have set my mind at rest. Much appreciated.

There is no need to disable the generic option to save Sent Items and then manage it by rules. You can disable it for just your Gmail account and leave the generic option enabled for your other IMAP accounts.
- File-> Account Settings-> Account Settings...-> double click on your Gmail account-> disable: Don't save copies of sent items
The Sent Items are managed by Gmail's SMTP server.

Oh dear, I thought i had sorted this but .... I have two laptops, one with Windows 11 and an older one with Windows 10 (not that that should make a difference ...) linked via Onedrive. I turned on the older one and made the same changes - although interestingly the account-specific setting didn't need changing for the gmail accounts (it was already set to not save copies of sent mails). I just deleted the Rules for the non gmail accounts. The generic option is set to save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder. But all my Sent emails for one of two non Gmail accounts have disappeared on the old laptop and on the mobile phone (where they had originally appeared after my first attempt on the new laptop). I have restarted the old laptop hoping that would recreate all the Sent emails to no avail........
AND the worrying thing is that ALL my SENT emails have also disappeared from SENT in my non Gmail webmail SENT folder. They are (currently) all showing in my SENT folder in Classic Outlook on my new laptop though.
Is the difference between what i can see on my main (new) laptop and the old one anything to do with the fact that I am using a workaround trick recommended on here to use an exchange-based account (@outlook.com) to store all the contact / calendar / task data and setting the OST data file for the outlook.com account as the <default data file> on my main laptop so that my Contacts etc saved on the cloud both for security and so as to be accessible on other devices (my spare laptop, my phone)?
I would welcome your help, please.
