Categories Pop Out

I use categories a lot (using the desktop version of Outlook mainly) to identify emails before moving into a folder and often assign multiple categories (e.g. I might identify a customer email as relating to a Project, Billing, Reporting).

Is there a way to have a pop out of the categories list or view it in a side bar. Its so frustrating that the list folds up each time you select a category. I know you can assign short codes and I have done for some really common categories but I can't assign to all and remember them all the time.
