Can't find messages in gmail but they are there in outlook

I cleaned up my inbox by creating folders for each year and sorting all of the thousands of messages I had sitting in my inbox into folders for the year they were received. I can see the folders/labels in both outlook for mac and gmail. However for the "2020" folder, I can only find the messages that I dragged there in outlook- there are about 7k messages. In gmail, this folder only shows 62 messages. Any help would be appreciated.
