Teams trying to connect with Skype for bussines

Hi All,

Seeing some odd behaviour when when communicating with some external users on teams.  Most work fine.

But with the odd one it seasm to be trying to connect with Skype even though the tennent I am trying to talk to are on teams.  A little Skype logo comes up next to the domain.

It then fails to send a message with the error "

Message could not be delivered. Your organizations are not set up to talk to each other." or "We ran into a problem sending this message.  Try again later"

This only happpens on to chats with some tenants.

There looks to be two issues here

1.) Where you see the Skype Logo, the other organisation may be using Teams but isn't in Teams Only Mode. They would be in something else like Islands where they are using Teams and Skype for Business. They will need to upgrade to Teams Only mode in their Teams Admin Centre

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-only-mode-considerations

2.) Message could not be delivered. Your organizations are not set up to talk to each other." or "We ran into a problem sending this message. Try again later" would likely be because their organisation is either not set up to talk with external organisations (federated chat) in the Teams Admin Centre, or they are restricting this to only certain domains. Again, this is all set in their Teams Admin Centre under Org Wide Settings > External Users

Both of these things can only really be resolved by their IT admin so I would raise it to them in order to enable these functionalities

    Hope that answers your question!

    Best, Chris
