@mention guests

I have a test team with multiple internal and external (guests) members.  @mention a Team or Channel doesn't send email notifications to ALL guests.  One test guest is added as an @oulook.com and @gmail.com email address and his outlook received the notification but nothing to his gmail (or my gmail test accoun either)  Is there something special about gmail that won't receive notifications?
