How to prevent users from Joining Private groups without invite

Check your audit logs. Most likely someone added them to the Team because they linked them to a file in underlying SharePoint and an owner added to the group or also there is new access requests basically for accessing a Team if you have a link to that Team but in both case someone has to approve it.
Agree here, there is not other way to join a private Team that being added /approved by an Owner
