Cannot join external company teams links on my Teams App

I have a 365 family subscription with the new free Teams App.  I access all of these subscriptions via an @outlook email address.  When I get Teams meeting invites from companies I cannot participate in those meeting via the desktop App and get directed to the web app.  This is not ideal.
I am now being told that I need to upgrade to a business subscription for this to work, but I cannot use my @outlook email for that subscription so that is not useful either.

    Hi John_M77 

     

    This is expected that you would not be able to join the companies Teams Meeting using your Outlook.com Teams. The feature to join the companies Teams Meeting using the outlook.com meeting is supposed to be released by the End of Feb 2024. Post which you would be able to join the meeting seamlessly.

     

    There is a caveat to that is the companies should enable the setting on their end to ensure that people from outlook,com can join their tenant meetings.
