2 orgs with the same client

Phil and John are private online tutors who both work for themselves. Originally, John sent an invite to  Phil to sign up for teams and join his org in order to show him how microsoft teams worked. He then introduced him to a client whom they both communicate with (not at the same time). Phil communicate with the client on a channel he set up in John's org. Phil then set up his own org and deleted himself from John's org. Phil then added the client to his org but it constantly showed as offline. Phil cannot contact his client at all.

In order to solve the problem, the client had to log into teams and re-add Phil to the channel in John's org.

On Phil's screen there is an option to swap inbetween orgs at the top right. Phil has identical groups set up both in John's org and his own org. In John's org it shows the client as online. In Phil's org it shows them as offline.

My name is Phil and this makes me want to bang my head against a wall. My client is getting fed up with technical problems. John is fed up with me messaging him in whatsapp to tell him today's issue with teams.

Am I just expecting too much? Using teams for something it wasn't designed to do? One thing I do know is that I about to abandon teams for my business. Any advice would be welcome.

Also, for reference, read through this Technet article.  I think it will help.
