I thought we'd be able to use Stream for playing videos on Teams meetings without lag but we can't?

From everything I've read, we should be able to host a video on SharePoint or OneDrive in order to share it in a teams meeting.

It doesn't seem like this feature works.

Stream isn't an app available in the apps list unless I use the one available in the chat window. If I select Microsoft Stream from the chat apps, it asks me to post a link to share with the meeting. When I input my video link from sharepoint, it gives the error "Please enter a valid Stream URL."

It should be a valid URL. We've tested this numerous time with numerous settings, but even if we set it so that anyone with the link can view the video, it won't let us use the sharepoint link (from mysharepoint.com) to Stream on a Teams meeting.

We can't watch videos by sharing our screens or windows because it lags too much. The only current solution we have is to use the YouTube app which seems to work better than the Microsoft ones.

Is there a solution for this?

  • Have you consider using PowerPoint Live? Videos within PowerPoint decks will then play fine in a Teams meeting.

Damien Calvert PowerPoint live is kind of pointless. We cannot use the newer Stream videos on it for some reason, and if you’re inserting a local video into PowerPoint, the video will play locally, so it has the same exact issue.

You can insert a YouTube video into PowerPoint but it still shows the YouTube logo and everything which defeats the purpose of adding additional steps when we could just use the YouTube app in teams.

I'm not sure what this is but it sounds like you're putting a Stream Classic app - which is why the Stream on SharePoint URL isn't working.

I'm not sure I understand your scenario. I appreciate the screensharing a video will be laggy for the people in the meeting who are watching your screen share. We've seen similar issues with YouTube videos where the frame rates of the video are low - but at least the audio does play through well.

Is there an issue doing it this way and then putting a link to the video in Chat in the meeting for people who want to view the full fidelity version later?

YouTube videos work fine but it’s strange there isn’t a better solution for teams to just stream a video for a large meeting to view together live. Zoom seems to accomplish this just fine.

We could send people the video, but then why have a meeting at all?

The point is there should be a solution to share a video over teams in a way that everyone is watching it at the same time. To have to explain this further is a little strange.
