Microsoft Office Add In Error
Hello!
ERROR MESSAGE: ADD-IN ERROR: YOU DON'T HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS ADD-IN. CONTACT YOUR SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR TO REQUEST ACCESS.
I tried troubleshooting for over an hour today with Microsoft chat, but it didn't resolve the issue. None of my add-ins are loading; specifically, I'm trying to use Claude in PowerPoint, but none of the add-on options are loading in Excel or Word. I am told this: "Based on the troubleshooting completed today, including reinstalling Microsoft 365, removing older Office versions, and testing the add-ins again, we've ruled out most common Office installation issues. At this point, Claude Support can help with the Claude-specific authorization error, while the Microsoft Tech Community is the best resource for further investigation into the add-in platform behavior affecting multiple add-ins. I contacted Claude, and they said this is a Microsoft issue.
Worth noting, while I do occasionally sign in for emails on organizational sites, the Microsoft account is purely personal and paid for by me; therefore, there should be no system administrator access issues.
Help would be so appreciated.

I just switched to Mac and installed Office and tried to get Claude for Powerpoint, same issue. It says I dont have access to install the add-in. However, I just installed on Word and it works (weirdly enough, Word has all my add-in before I installed them. So now it has two Claude and one paperpal).
Just tried Excel, didnt work. Anyone has any idea? this is really annoying. - striketennCopper Contributor
Exact same issue. I upgraded claude to a paid tier and tried installing the plug in into Excel on Mac OS but it gives me the same error as the rest. tried uninstalling, remove cache, keychain passwords switching accounts but no luck. I was about to call Microsoft but seems like they are not of much help. I hope they push out an update soon

I’m experiencing exactly the same issue in Excel with both Claude and ChatGPT. When I’m signed in to my Microsoft account, I can’t add or use either add-in. However, as soon as I sign out, both the Claude and ChatGPT sidebars work normally. This suggests that the issue may be related to Microsoft account authorization or permissions rather than to the add-ins themselves.

Same here I cannot install the wisesheets plugin or now any other plugin. I've tried deleting the wef folder but its not helped. I'm now getting "You don't have permission to use this add-in Contact your system administrator to request access" which is slightly more than i got last night.
I had a remote connection from Microsoft help but it was useless. I do better support for my mum. Initially wanted to fob me off and saying its an external add-in go see wisesheets. They have records of the timestamped errors but seem to be having trouble with their OMEX servers.

Same issue. I went to Microsoft customer support, the agent told me to come here and then disconnected the chat. What type of customer service is that?!

I have exact same issue - for Claude and another 3rd party add-in ("FMP") for Excel - spent 90 mins with Support chat - did a Online Repair including re-install Office365 - still didn't work. They suggested I post it here too..

Same issue here, starting this morning. All of a sudden every add-in I use is gone from Word and I can't get any of them to load. In my case that's mainly Spellbook, so this goes well beyond one add-in.
What I've checked so far: I'm on Microsoft 365 Insider, Current Channel (Preview), Version 2609 (Build 20430.20048). "Update Now" says I'm up to date, and all connected experiences are turned on under Privacy Settings. Since several unrelated add-ins stopped working at the same time, it looks like a problem with the add-in platform itself, possibly in the current Preview build, rather than with any single add-in.
I rely on these add-ins every day in my law practice, so right now I can't work normally. If anyone from Microsoft can confirm whether this is a known issue with build 2609, or if anyone has found a fix, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.
