There is a back way around it which was not clear - for anyone experiencing the same issue, first go https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/update-office-for-mac-automatically-bfd1e497-c24d-4754-92ab-910a4074d7c1#:~:text=Check%20for%20updates%20and%20install,then%20check%20for%20updates%20again. and use the Msoft auto update tool.
