Give a custom name to the General channel in Microsoft Teams
Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders,
Exciting news for Microsoft Teams users! Team owners can now rename the General channel (or the first channel of a new team) to something that better reflects your team’s personality and purpose. Whether it's "Project Hub," "Team Central," or something else, customization is in your hands. This small change can help personalize how your team collaborates in a big way. Ready to make your Teams channels truly yours? Check out the details in our latest blog post: Give a custom name to the General channel in Microsoft Teams
Thanks!

PerrySjogren_ I just tried to create a new team and it wouldn't let use me the name General! What?
This is one step forward, two steps back. I can't even create a General channel after I set the team up with a different first channel. Giving us the choice to rename or use a different name is useful, but preventing us from using the name General is not. Please ask the product team to reconsider this restriction.
- Just saw that you can't use the General channel anymore. This seems completely unexpected and counterproductive.

KevinCrossman I'm using "General Discussion" as a default channel name when I don't have a specific channel in mind. Clumsy but it works.
- JoshuaF570Copper ContributorCan this feature be turned off to keep the General channel the way it is? Or is it completely up to the team owners discretion to rename it if they choose?

JoshuaF570 I just checked in my Teams Admin center and it can NOT be turned off... I really hope MS implements this in the Teams Admin center in GA. Changing General name is okay, but give a custom name when it's created? Nah..
