How do I turn off Copilot in Word documents?
I don't need Copilot in my word documents and I don't need the copilot icon stalking me on every page when I begin to type. Its very distracting. How do I disable Copilot?

Same - had to revert to a prior build although the way I did it took more time than your solution, which looks way easier.
Am a PhD student 5 weeks out from submitting thesis and can’t have AI anywhere near my documents otherwise it is auto-fail, 4 years of my life and 4 years of my family’s patience, support, and financial sacrifice down the drain. It’s a major issue to have Copilot forced and not be able to turn it off. I would be happy with option to turn copilot on and off whenever I want, so can work on documents safely for Uni untainted by AI without having to worry about technical stuff like software build reversions that had to happen today. Spent time reverting that I needed for writing.

AI has become such a big problem for Uni. I'm in Aus and doing my bachelor of education. So not as full on as a PhD - I'm amazed I'm even at uni in the first place (mid 40s non-academic single mum). So the last thing I need is a a sanction for using AI when I haven't. Other's have commented in our uni discussion groups via facebook that AI markers are being left throughout our documents that are being picked up by scanners like TurnItIn and students are receiving sanctions for academic misconduct. It's a serious issue!
I wish this was an opt in or out situation. I can't afford to be carrying and paying off a HECs debt as an already low income earner, and not achieve my degree!
