Font issues

Why is it that some fonts will work all the time in OneNote, rather you set the font, then type or type, select, change font?  Others will ONLY work if you set the font, THEN begin typing?  If I have a table of info and want to change the font, it makes it difficult.

One example in particular is Freehand 591 BT.  I have to set the font on each line and then start typing.  Other fonts like Brush Script work fine if you select pre-existing text and change the font.
