Teams no longer autostarts and asks for login

Hello

We switched the Update channel for Microsoft 365 Apps from Monthly Enterprise Channel to Current Channel (Preview) because it's recommended by Microsoft and we wanted the new Teams.

Since then Teams is no longer autostarting after device enrollment and also asks for login. Previously it was always autostarting and logged in automatically.

Some additional info:
- Azure AD (Entra ID?) account is listed under Access work or school and shows as connected, so everything should be fine there and as mentioned is was working before.
- We are only rolling out Teams from Microsoft 365 Apps, so no Word, Excel, etc.

Has anyone else observed this behavior and does anyone know how to restore the old behavior?

Thanks
Michael

MTU42 we didn't even make any change...there is just some random update in this past month and now it will not autostart, but waits like a lame duck for me to click on an account. definitely a system error: hopefully MS won't waste our time with suggested workarounds and just fix it

  • Hello MTU42

Welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Recep I'll be happy to help you today.

Please follow the below steps to resolve your issue

    Check Teams Autostart Settings:

    • Open Microsoft Teams.
    • Click on your profile picture in the top right corner.
    • Select "Settings."
    • In the "General" section, ensure the "Auto-start application" option is enabled.

    Verify Registry Settings:

    • Open the Registry Editor (regedit).
    • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Teams\LoggedInOnce.
    • Ensure the LoggedInOnce value is set to 1.

    Repair Teams Installation:

    • Open the Control Panel.
    • Go to "Programs" > "Programs and Features."
    • Find "Microsoft Teams" in the list, right-click, and select "Change."
    • Choose the "Repair" option and follow the prompts.

    Check Group Policy:

    • If your organization uses Group Policy, verify the Teams-related Group Policy settings.
    • Look for policies related to autostart and authentication.

    Intune Configuration Check:

    • In the Intune portal, review the configuration profile for Microsoft Teams.
    • Ensure there are no conflicting policies that may prevent autostart.

    Azure AD Connection:

    • Confirm that the Azure AD account is still properly connected.
    • Check for any Conditional Access policies that might affect Teams autostart.

Make sure your teams application is up-to-date
