Sync for Offline Devices
Hi all,
I've been poking around in Microsoft's documentation but I've been unable to find a straight answer. I understand that devices check in with Intune automatically on boot and at regular intervals but I occasionally need to force a sync on a device that isn't currently online.
I've got two questions on how Intune handles this. First, if a device is booted up and used offline, but then connects to the internet, does it immediately reach out to check in, or would it still wait for the next scheduled check-in?
Secondly, if I try to sync a device that is currently offline, does that sync request "queue up", so the next time it's online it will force a check in?
Thanks!
- Hi ClaytonKing!
Offline Device Check-In:
When a device is booted up and used offline, it does not immediately reach out to check in with Intune.Instead, it waits for the next scheduled check-in based on the configured refresh cycle times. The scheduled check-in ensures that the device receives any pending actions or policies assigned to it.
Forcing a Sync on an Offline Device:
If you manually initiate a sync for a device that is currently offline, the sync request does queue up.When the device next connects to the internet, it will receive the queued sync request and perform the check-in with Intune.Users may see a message like “Trying to sync…” during this process.
