Looking to be certified
Good morning everyone,
I used to be an Altiris administrator and was briefly an SCCM administrator 10 years ago. I was self-employed for a long time and I’m trying to get back into the tech field. More particularly, I want to get back into operating system and software deployment and packaging.
Do you guys have any recommendations on how to achieve this? I’ve been looking for courses or boot camps that have a certification test at the end of it to no avail. I noticed that Microsoft has some training classes, but I wasn’t sure how far that would get me.
Thank you!

That’s the part I’ve been trying to look for. I can’t find any vendors that do the training that lead to certification tests. Every time I look around, I come across Udemy links or the Microsoft learning website which I’m not sure how in-depth that gets. I’m hoping I could just do those and take the practice exam and then be ready for the test.
At the same time, in the past, I would use the books and have to take the test more than once because something would always be missing.

In my experience the best way is to use more than one resource preparing for exams. Microsoft Learn is a good resource but in my case wont be enough. There are cheap Udemy courses that are good as well and you can find them with great discounts often. It is important to see the reviews and see if they helped others to prepare for the same exam you´re trying. That is important. The bootcamps are usually more focused on preparing for roles, not specific exams. Finally prep tests are also very important (not dump questions), tests that helps you understand what parts are missing or better said, how everything fits together with explanations. There are great books as well but for me is harder to use them compared to videos.

Hi bwgii!
Since you have experience with Altiris and SCCM, you’re already familiar with some key deployment tools. I’d recommend looking into Microsoft’s certification paths, particularly those focused on modern management and deployment, as for example the Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate. This covers topics like Windows 10/11 deployment, security, and app management, which would align well with your experience. There are also online courses including Microsoft Learn portal that can help you refresh your skills before the exam. Additionally, look for any vendor-specific training like for Intune or System Center if you want to get deeper into deployment tools.
Hope it helps!
