INTUNE: Problems with the Google address (Managed Google Play)

Hello everyone,

Ever since we added our email address under “Managed Google Play” (in the Intune Admin Center), we can no longer use that address to sign in to Google, Google Docs, Google Drive, or similar services...

Is this normal? - If not, what settings do I need to adjust, and where, to get it working again?

The error message looks something like this:

"Error message:

We’re sorry, but you don’t have access to Google Docs. Please log in to your Admin Console to enable it"

Thanks and best regards

Chris

That message is coming from Google rather than Intune. Connecting an account to Managed Google Play is meant to let Intune manage and distribute Android apps; it does not provide access to Google Docs or Drive, and it should not be used as the way to enable those services.

The next step depends on what type of Google account that address is. If it is a Google Workspace or Cloud Identity account, a Google Workspace administrator needs to check the Google Admin console and confirm that Drive and Docs is enabled for that user’s organisational unit or group. The user may also need the appropriate Google Workspace licence. Those settings are controlled by Google, not by the Intune admin center.

If the address was created or used only for the Managed Google Play connection, it is best treated as a dedicated Android Enterprise administration account, not as an account for normal Drive or Docs use. Use a separate, properly licensed Google Workspace account for Google services.

Do not disconnect the existing Managed Google Play binding simply to test this, as it can affect Android Enterprise management and app assignments. First confirm the account type and have the Google Workspace administrator check the service status for that account.
