Intune not removing apps on W11

We've got app profiles set up in Intune to remove the unwanted preinstalled junk on Windows - News app, Mail app, XBox, etc. On Windows 10 these did (and still do) work fine.

However, on Windows 11 there are problems and some apps simply don't uninstall - the device gives a warning notification that uninstall failed, and Intune also reports this.

After extensive back and forward discussions with Intune support it appears that the excuse is that because these aren't apps which were installed with Intune (i.e. they are part of the Windows installation) they cannot guarantee that they will uninstall. This is frankly a ridiculous excuse - they are Microsoft store apps so an uninstall rule on them in Intune should remove them. Doesn't always seem to be the same apps, but the News one is always involved.

Microsoft suggests using Powershell - I've not got round to trying this yet, but before I waste yet more time on trying to circumvent problems which shouldn't exist, has anyone found a way to get the News app to reliably uninstall from W11 using an Intune app policy?

Thanks

Are you using new store or legacy apps? Uninstall assignments of new store apps never worked for me correctly.
